What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a treatment used to improve skin texture and tone. An acid is applied to the skin to lower the pH, which loosens the connections between dead skin cells, inducing exfoliation and stimulating new cell growth. This process causes superficial layers of dead skin to peel off, revealing a smoother and more radiant completion. Chemical peels can also thicken the epidermis, increase dermal volume and stimulate collagen.

What is AlumierMD’s philosophy?

Chemical peels work by deeply exfoliating the surface layers of the skin forcing your body to quickly replenish it with new cells. When peels are performed regularly, the skin gets used to this process and begins to rejuvenate itself like younger skin. To be sure the body doesn’t react to this deep exfoliation as it would to trauma, which can lead to pigmentation changes, exfoliation must be introduced gradually to give the skin time to adjust.

Treatment Expectations

Beautiful skin doesn’t happen overnight, and treatments take time to show results. A single chemical peel can provide the immediate effects of bright and radiant skin; however, more significant results in treating textural issues, fine lines and inflamed acne could take up to 8 weeks.

What are the side-effects ?

During the treatment most people feel a tingling/burning sensation which subsides after a couple of minutes - most patients like this sensation as they can feel the treatment working.
The next day the skin may be feel tight, be red and some people start to flake the day after.
Not everyone who has a chemical peel will shed their skin, however if they do, it usually lasts 2-7 days.
Some people also experience a purge - this is where the spots underneath the skin come to the surface - this is something to bare in mind when booking th treatment if you have a big event coming up.
Will I require any aftercare?

Following your treatment you will receive a 5-day post peel care kit. This consists of cleanser, moisturiser and SPF to re-hydrate and allow your skin to heal.
During the consultation you are welcome to a full skin analysis to determine which AlumierMD skin care range will be best for your skin.
