What is an Anti-Wrinkle Injection?
The Anti-Wrinkle Injection is a Neuro Toxin protein produced by Clostridium Botulinum bacterium. It works by temporarily blocking the messages sent from the nerve to the muscle, thus preventing movement for some time, usually between 3-4 months. However, this can differ due to diet, metabolism, other medication and muscle strength.
What can Anti-Wrinkle Injections be used for?
A popular misconception is that anti-wrinkle injections can only be used to eliminate frown lines on your forehead. Although this is one of the more popular procedures we use it for, it is one of many. We can use anti-wrinkle injections to do the following:
- Frown lines: These are the lines that appear between your eyebrows.
- Forehead lines: As the name suggests, the lines above your eyebrows when you raise your eyebrows.
- Crows feet: The lines that extend out away from the sides of your eyes when you frown or squint.
- Gummy smile: When you have an overactive muscle when you smile, it exposes more gum than you would usually see when someone smiles.
- Lip Flips: Prevents the lip from turning in when you smile; this stops the top lip from disappearing when you smile.
- Hyperhidrosis: We can inject ‘Botox’ into areas such as armpits to prevent excessive sweating and these dreaded ‘sweat patches’.
- Teeth grinding: If you grind your teeth or clench your jaw when you sleep or are stressed, we can inject ‘Botox’ into the jaw muscles to relax the area, which prevents unwanted grinding of the teeth.

What can you do if it goes wrong or I don’t like it?
Can anti-wrinkle injections go wrong? Yes, it is not professional or truthful to say any aesthetic procedure can not go wrong; the simple fact is it can, BUT, the most important thing you MUST do as a customer is making sure you have chosen a reputable practitioner with a medical background. You must use a nurse with experience, knowledge and regular updates on their competency.
As with any drug, Allergies and Anaphylaxis is always a risk, but your practitioner must hold an emergency kit which includes Adrenalin. Should this happen in extremely rare circumstances, it must be corrected by a qualified prescriber, which is why nurse-led Botox treatment in Wigan matters: only nurse prescribers, doctors and dentists are legally allowed to prescribe it.
Often multiple injections are required but the treatment is relatively quick and over in a couple of minutes.
Regardless of your pain threshold it is highly unlikely you will feel much pain and at worst, some explain the procedure as slightly uncomfortable.
There is no necessity for anaesthetic as it is such a quick and painless procedure, the needle used is very fine so the trauma to the area is minimal.
How are Anti-Wrinkle Injections injected & is it painful?
It is administered using a tiny needle injected directly into the muscle and is one of the most pain-free aesthetic procedures you can have. If you are needle-phobic or have extreme fear, we can use numbing cream to slightly numb the area, although this is very rarely required and most of my patients laugh following the procedure and cannot believe how little they feel.
How long does it last?
Once injected, it takes a few days to start working, and maximum results appear around two weeks post-procedure. All first-time customers are booked in for a follow-up appointment two weeks after for a face-to-face review of the treatment.
At SF Aesthetics, most patients find their results last between three and four months. This varies depending on the area treated, your metabolism and how active the muscles are. Shelley includes a complimentary two-week review with every treatment, if anything needs adjusting, she will see you at no extra charge.
