One of the dreaded signs of aging is that wrinkles can start to appear on your face, particularly during muscle activity such as smiling, frowning, raising your eyebrows or squinting. Here at SF Aesthetics clinic in Wigan we are proud to combat these wrinkles with our tried and tested anti wrinkle injections using the prescribed medication known as Botox.
Our anti wrinkle injections involve injecting botulinum toxin type A into the skin using a fine syringe. ‘Botox’ is a nerve toxin which has been safely used in healthcare since 1980 and was approved for cosmetic purposes in 2002. Since then, anti wrinkle injections known as Botox injections have become the most popular cosmetic procedure worldwide. Still today in my Wigan clinic its is the most common aesthetics procedure I provide.
Botox is a muscle relaxant which works by blocking the nerve impulses that cause the muscles to move. This then relaxes the muscles, thereby removing or improving wrinkles in the treated area.
Botox medication used to provide anti wrinkle injections requires no local anaesthetic and patients can return to their normal activities right away.
The results can be seen within two weeks of treatment, generally lasting three to four months during initial treatment. Over time, less regular treatments will be needed to maintain results.

The side-effects of Botox injections generally occur in the first few days after treatment and are temporary. The most common side effects are headache, skin redness, muscle weakness in the treated area and facial pain.
Other side-effects specifically related to the injection can include redness, pain, swelling and stinging in the treated area. Very rarely Botox has been known to spread from the site of injection and cause muscle weakness, droopy eyelids and eyebrows and difficulty swallowing.
We recommend that patients avoid lying flat or bending down for at least four hours after their anti-wrinkle injections, and applying make-up for at least six hours. Physical exercise and steam rooms should be avoided until the following day.
For 24 hours after treatment, we also advise that patients avoid touching the treated area and avoid drugs such as alcohol, aspirin or ibuprofen as these can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.
Of course, anti-wrinkle injections using botulinum toxin is a prescription only medicine and must only be used to treat patients following a full consultation, medical history and side effects discussed.
